CFDRC announces the award of US patent #7,631,487, “Constant Volume Combustion Bipropellant Pulsed Rocket Motor”. This invention utilizes a reciprocating thrust valve to provide precision controlled pulsed mode operation of a highly efficient bipropellant combustion process. “The potential of our Constant Volume Combustion Bipropellant Pulsed Rocket Motor to prolong the mission lifetime and functionality, without compromising weight, simplicity, cost, or reliability, in planetary ascent/descent vehicles or in-space satellite keeping operations, is of significant interest to our customers and partners,” stated Mr. Matthew Thomas, Director of Propulsion/Power at CFDRC. “We are actively pursuing both of these promising applications and are optimistic about the future of this unique adaptation to a conventional bipropellant rocket motor.”
