(Huntsville, Ala | August 25, 2022) CFD Research held a formal ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on August 24th for its $8 million expansion in Huntsville. The new lab space is dedicated in honor of CFD Research’s late founder, Dr. Ashok K. Singhal, who founded the company from the basement of his home in 1987.
CFD currently has a little over 180 employees. The 13,265 square-foot laboratory expansion is expected to bring an additional 30 jobs and create more internship pathways for young professionals. The expansion has increased the size of the biomedical labs by 50 percent. It will also create an additional 7 labs to expand CFD Research’s capabilities. A brand-new, high-performance computing center will also be located in the facility.
During the ceremony, Sangeeta Singhal, wife of late founder Dr. Ashok K. Singhal, announced that she has pledged $1,000,000 to establish the Ashok K. Singhal Endowed Chair in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).
Pending approval from the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, this gift will create the first endowed Chair in the College of Engineering (COE) that is endowed by an individual, non-corporate donor.
The Singhal family has impacted UAH significantly for nearly 15 years. In 2008, Dr. Ashok and Sangeeta Singhal established the Singhal Scholarship for undergraduate engineering students as well as the CFD Research Scholarship. Dr. Ashok K. Singhal served on the UAH Foundation Board in 2008 and the UAH College of Engineering (COE) Industrial Engineering Advisory Board on two separate occasions.
