CFDRC Wins Multiple DoD Small Business Innovative Research Projects
HUNTSVILLE, May 28, 2014 – CFD Research Corporation (CFDRC) has been awarded multiple Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contracts by various Department of Defense (DoD) organizations during the first quarter of 2014. The Army, Air Force, Navy, Defense Health Program (DHP), Chemical & Biological Defense and AMRDEC have all awarded the company work to improve understanding of complex physical phenomena critical to defense systems, protect the soldier, reduce risks, understand propulsion coupling effects, and to provide greater understanding of combustion systems. Some of the advanced technologies being developed include; energetic materials, batteries, divert attitude control systems, projectile dynamics, advanced data processing, and protein manufacturing for biodefense applications. A total of 16 contracts have been awarded in this round of DoD SBIR solicitations representing ~$6M in new R&D work for the company. The work is being performed in CFDRC’s offices and laboratories in Huntsville and Scottsboro, Alabama.
CFDRC leverages its computational prowess with the strengths of its engineers and scientists in component and system simulation, design, fabrication, test and evaluation to execute SBIR programs, task orders, contracts and provide the break though solutions required by challenging federal government missions.
“We are very excited to be working with DoD to provide leading edge research & development expertise to protect our warfighters, enable next generation defense developments and support new understandings of complex technology challenges” said CFDRC President and CEO Joseph M. Cosumano Jr., a retired Lieutenant General who joined the company in 2013.
Since its inception in 1987, CFDRC has worked with government agencies, businesses and academia to provide innovative solutions within the Aerospace & Defense, Biomedical & Life Sciences, and Energy & Materials industries. Over the years CFDRC has earned multiple national awards for successful application and commercialization of innovative component/system technology prototypes, multi-physics simulation software and multi-disciplinary analyses.
Other cutting edge technologies CFDRC is currently transitioning include SynVivo (a cell-based microchip platform for accelerating drug development); BioBattery (a clean, safe, renewable and portable power source); the Navy’s next generation jammer and solutions to excessive V-22 Engine Dust Ingestion.
